“Ceci n’est pas une pipe”

You’d like to know why.

Who burned New Jersey down,
why pigs are suddenly hostile,
the deeper meaning of orgasms,
when that future occurred,
how you managed to miss it.

You only lost focus for a second.
and suddenly it was the present.

Presently, pigs are lovable,
orgasms require no explanation,
and New Jersey remains intact.

Nothing interesting has happened;
the present is a mundane bore.

You hold on tight hoping for more,
for the optimistic, magical opening,
the mysterious future’s alluring door.

That portentous portal
remains slammed in your face.

There isn’t much time left.

You’d like to know why.

You never do.
