GEMS4 hosted the DFID Director General for Economic Development and his delegation on April 30th in Lagos. In order to witness GEMS4 initiatives on the ground and how they are addressing constraints in the markets, the DG was hosted to a visit of Mile 12 market in Lagos.

In Mile 12, the DFID delegation interacted with project partners: Stanbic IBTC Bank staff; Mobile payment operators; Mile 12 Apex Market Association; FFVCDAN and several GHP trainers. During the visit they observed practical demonstrations of agent-led mobile transactions and good handling steps such as sorting, cleaning and grading of tomatoes.

The visit was extremely useful and the need for improved storage infrastructure in mile 12 market and the need for media awareness for the initiatives was emphasized.
