In just a few days, the neighborhood will be filled with glowing pumpkins and the streets will be filled with sugar surged, costumed kids (and few too-old-to-still-be-doing-this “kids”) knocking on your door asking for candy!

Despite your best efforts, sometimes getting your middle schooler or tween (especially boys) to read a book can be challenging. Holiday themed books are a great way to sneak a book in between XBOX sessions and tap into the event driven mindset of (most) kids.

Here are five books with the perfect mix of the supernatural, great storytelling and enough humor to get even the most reluctant readers to bite into reading!

If your family has any fun and spooky reading recommendations — share them in the comments!

Peanut Butter & Brains A Zombie Culinary Tale

by Joe McGee

This story follows the adventures of a young zombie named Reginald who, unlike his brain craving zombie friends, only wants to find the perfect, sweet and sticky goodness of a PB&J.
