Keep your Children Well

We were talking about the incredible bio-research campus at UCSF Mission Bay in San Francisco. Another building on that campus is the UCSF Medical Center Benioff (Salesforce Guy) Childrens Hospital.

It is an example of the investment that we as a society make in life. In our tiny bit, we built the generator fuel system.

One other projects we worked on is the Lurie Childrens Hospital, 26 story tower in Chicago. My son had been briefly at the old Chicago Childrens hospital on Fullerton, which the Lurie hospital replaced. All was fine with my son, but nothing hits you like hearing that your baby is in trouble.

Blocks from the old Children’s hospital on Fullerton, there is a beautiful St. Clements church, with a beautiful choir by the way. I came to find out that the church has some great importance for children’s healthcare. In the late 1930's Great Depression, Danny Thomas, lived in the neighborhood. At a low point in his career, he made a vow inside that church, that if he became successful, he would do something very special for others.

And he did by starting the St. Jude’s Hospital in Memphis, TN, and made famous with his television fundraisers. My niece is a highly specialized nurse there, so we came to know a bit about it. It is an incredible story of many people over many years supporting research and care for severely sick children. They depend on the giving so if you have an interest look it up.

Its nice when we are getting our hands dirty at the generators, to think that we are a small part in a big cause — our collective voice saying we love our children.
