A Reminder To Myself of My Privilege

While I often raise the negatives, I want to present what areas of privilege I have.

I want to reflect on the positive things I have, even while I also bear in mind the negative aspects. Maybe some of these will resonate with you!

1. I’m fortunate enough to not have to worry about shopping — in any store.

I’m not going to get attacked or judged for walking in to shop in any store. My brain tries to tell me differently every time, but I’m privileged in this regard. I can chameleon in, I can appear like I’m maybe browsing to buy a present for a partner, if I get challenged (and I’m sure that’s what most people think).

2. I have a roof over my head, and I’m not in danger of being kicked out.

While in the past I did have that hanging over me, my parents have at least decided that no, I don’t need to be kicked out! I can stay; I’m happier in my gender presentation even if they don’t understand all aspects of it. They’ve learned, I’ve kept an open dialogue, and they’ve come to realize that they’d only be losing me if they pushed me away.

3. I live in a place where I’m protected from being
