Freedom Has A Price
A Poem
I am finally free
Not totally 100% free, but free enough
Freedom isn’t free, it has a price
Freedom of speech, a right we fight to keep
Freedom of speech, a privilege not afforded to all
Freedom of speech, silence holds us hostage
Freedom of speech, words have consequences
Not free as a child, punishments given
Not free as a student, we want to fit in
Not free as an employee, need food on the table
Not free as an employer, payroll every two weeks
Now free to say the words, some support us some we lose
Now free to say the words, small paycheck beholden to none
Now free to say the words, I am a trans woman
Now free to say the words, Black Trans Lives Matter
