What is Generation Z?

It’s basically those who are currently in their teens. Born around the turn of the century, they are those who grew up not having a clue what it would have been like to have no internet or social media. Due to this, this generation is the most uniform across the globe there has ever been, and tends to be more open minded, cautious and interconnected than any generation that precedes them. They have barely any living memory of 9.11 so don’t remember a time when didn’t have to go to the airport hours before your flight. Furthermore, the War on Terror has been going on for most or all of their lives, slowly becoming a norm.

Generation Z — and what it entails

Many people nowadays feel that politics and traditional media outlets like newspapers or television have changed over the past few years. Our world is divided like it never has been. There is an overwhelming sense of “us and them”, “right and wrong”, “things that you can and can’t say”. Public debates should be fruitful, mind opening exchanges of ideas and opinions, not shouting over one other. And because we live in this fast paced world, people’s opinions should be acknowledged, considered and debated thoughtfully and thoroughly. Not rejected out of hand.

We want Generation Z to be a place where people can present and project their own unique ideas and stories. They can be about politics, society in general, sports, celebrities, or just about everything. We want there to be as many topics as possible in order to bring discussion to the table, and allow genuine, meaningful debate on topics. We want to hear people’s voices first hand in this day and age. We plan to publish a Japanese and English edition initially, then moving on to other languages as this community grows. We want people of all backgrounds to participate in discussing the issues that we face, and how to make the world even the slightest bit better, and we will persevere to do this through many mediums.

We created Generation Z as a media outlet to publish new and original ideas freely, and allow more fruitful debate on the issues of today. We would like this to be a truly free form of media, and we would love to welcome anyone to post their opinions on any topic that intrigues them. Anyone who wants to join our small band of members in any way, from writing articles or helping run the platform to discussing issues is welcome!
