Community Insider: George Evans

Tell us a little about yourself.

I was born in the Queen’s Hospital (Nottingham) on 24th August 1993 which makes me 25 years old, I spent the majority of my childhood exploring places on the outskirts of my village, playing on the Nintendo 64 & going to the cinema.

These experiences led to me loving the works of John Ronald Reuel Tolkien (The Hobbit/Lord Of The Rings) & Shigeru Miyamoto (The Legend Of Zelda), being introduced to these expansive fantasy worlds as a child gave me a penchant for adventure. Sadly, due to debt incurred from going to university & not having had much free time over the past 7 years I have been unable to go travelling but it’s still very much something I would like to do before I turn 30.

I enjoy seafood, ale, films, video games & socialising with friends, I try to game & go to various restaurants with friends whenever I can.

I first acquired a love for seafood when I tried Scampi at a pub just off the A607 when I was a 6 year old back in 1999, I acquired a love for ale when I visited Prague in 2013 for a documentary about the history of the city & my love for film & video games began when I played Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope in 1999 & played Mario 64 on the Nintendo 64 that same year.

I also enjoy everything computer related which was why I decided to apply for the Business Administrator Apprenticeship at Corkscrew.

Tell us a bit about what you do.

I previously worked as a kitchen porter for various restaurants/cafes’ in the town of Sidmouth. I started off working in a fairly up market place called The Loft before moving on to work at The Mocha & Prospect Plaice. Working at these places entailed looking after the kitchen I now work at The Generator Hub for Corkscrew as their Business Administrator.

What events will you be attending this month (business or social)?

I am considering going to The Arcade as it’s hosting a Star Wars Quiz Night midweek which I would very much like to attend.

How long have you been a member of The Generator community?

I joined on 3rd September 2018. I got the opportunity to chat to various employees during my two day trial in the first week of August & got a chance to build on that during the barbecue on the 2nd September. Because of all the prior social interaction, I felt perfectly comfortable coming in & working at the Generator Hub on my first official day.

Why did you join The Generator?

I saw that Indeed was advertising a position in Exeter as Corkscrew’s Business Administrator Apprentice, I chose to apply for the position as I wanted to embrace my love of computers whist learning more about marketing, sales & business. I saw this as an excellent opportunity & didn’t want to pass up a chance to work on Exeter’s quayside along some of the finest minds in business/marketing/sales/animation/advertising etc

What is your favourite part of The Generator?

The fact that everyone can casually interact in the kitchen area & get along with each other. The office environment is very welcoming & friendly in general which why it’s great/ideal to work at the Generator Hub.
