We have some amazing people working at The Generator and in this section we’ll chat to them and find out a little more about what they do.

Community Insider: Lydia Mansi

Tell us a little about yourself.

Ok. How not to make this sound like a dating profile…. Erm, I’m a Sidmouth
gal who went to Goldsmiths to study Media and Communications then stayed
in the big smoke for a decade. I’m now back in Devon with my husband and
two young sons, living by the sea and trail running around the East Devon coast line. I’m also a brand ambassador for Badd Karma yoga who encourage inclusivity in yoga regardless of ability, shape, size, colour or identification.

Tell us a bit about what do you do?

After 12 years as a Magazine Editor and Head of Content for digital brands,
last autumn I went solo! So since September I am Lydia Mansi INC which is
terrifying and empowering, I’m not sure in what ratio. A bit like a recently freed battery chicken, I’m still finding my feet in the freelance world, I’ve been PAYE for so long I keep looking round for someone to ask if I can go for lunch.
I now work with SME, on their digital marketing and content. The services I
provide differ from client to client — it might be content creation — written, video direction, podcasts, or it might be running their social media marketing
campaigns, PPC and SEO management, e-commerce content.. it really
depends day-to- day, which I LOVE.

What events will you be attending this month?

I always try and make it to the East Devon Jelly when I can (held at The
Generator on the Quay on the 9 th Feb). I love how it’s a really relaxed, friendly way of networking but also gives me the chance to pick the brains of other local business owners — from tax woes to out-sourcing the techy stuff I can’t do!

How long have you been with us here at The Generator?

Since Sept!

Why did you join The Generator?

As soon as I went freelance I knew I needed an office to go to. I’m a social
beast, I need people around me to spark my creativity — also as a working mum it’s really nice to have that division where I can be in ‘work mode’ and
then ‘mummy mode’.

What would you say your favourite part of The Generator is?

That I know there will be someone within these 4 walls who will prob have the answer to a question I might have! Be it a work contact or the best place in
Exeter to get Lebanese food (anyone?!).

What 3 celebrities would be on your dinner party invite list?

Alan Rickman, Terry Wogan and Robin Williams… logistically tough I know,
but a girl’s got to dream…
