Community Insider: Steve Jones

Tell us a little about yourself.

I spent some of childhood in Africa and then the rest of it in Liverpool, Manchester and the Lake District (I’m the eldest of about 78 kids as my parents adopted and fostered loads of brothers and sisters for me — just in case I felt lonely :). Came to Exeter in 1988, met my lovely wife at university (now married 25 years) and have 4 children who are now young adults starting lives in medicine, theatre, education and sports psychology. We love the South West and I’ve always had roles that get me around the region — any excuse to get on those beaches and moors. I’ve been an advisor/trainer to Church of England / Methodists in the region — community work, young people, families and leadership. I’ve developed faith communities as a pastor and worked with the homeless and the millionaires and everything in between. But love the digital space and hence ClickMovements…

Tell us a bit about what you do.

Me and ClickMovements basically help things grow and flourish — people, leaders, entrepreneurs, business owners and their businesses, social enterprises or causes. I’m focusing particulary on Digital Growth and Leadership Development using a thing called Inbound — which is basically ‘nice marketing’ where you accompany and educate people on their buyers journey rather than irritate them with ‘nasty marketing’ like ads, cold calls and other interuptions. To me Inbound is the future of marketing, sales, service and leadership — more a way of life than just a business strategy. I use an Inbound tool set called HubSpot.
