Starting something new is exciting, special and refreshing but can also be daunting, risky and scary. This applies to almost all new experiences in life however today we will discuss the transition from employee to freelancer. It’s easy to assume that taking your idea and doing some laptop work will equate to money. Nothing’s that straightforward in life. After all, if that was the case, surely everyone would be doing it not just the current 2 million freelancers in the UK, right?

If you’re looking to transition from being part of a team or working in a company environment to freelancing it’s hard to get to grips with how the other half live. Take your journey at your own pace and reach out to those in a similar position, coworking offices are awesome for this.

Freelancing is becoming increasingly popular with the new generation of digital nomads that are not bound to working from any set locations or timescales.

How to make the most of a coworking space.

Here at The Generator Hub, our physical space is not what attracts freelancers, it’s the community of like-minded users. We want to offer you more than a physical workspace (even though our spaces are pretty awesome too). We use the word community in almost every blog, Instagram post or tweet because that’s what we care about most, that’s why we do what we do.

Spending so much time in a coworking office and meeting so many different people has given me an insight into what works best. The first step is to talk to people, don’t just ask their name or make a joke about the coffee, delve deeper. Find out what they specialize in, where they started and all the nitty gritty freelancing details. These people are your biggest source of info so get friendly and share your stories. When you’ve mastered the first steps of interacting with those around you and sharing you’re knowledge you’ll start to pick up tips and tricks to help you succeed of your freelance journey.
