Located in Montreal, Startupfest is a three-day long event featuring the best and brightest entrepreneurs, founders, investors, and mentors. Attendees are exposed to high-class content through interactive roundtables, inspirational speakers, and valuable how-to sessions. Genesis Centre employees, clients, and graduates are present at Startupfest this week to absorb all it has to offer. This article is the first of three installments that will feature Genesis Centre representatives and how they fit with this year’s Startupfest theme: Unforgettable + Unconventional.

Hair color wastage, inventory count, and guesswork are huge issues for hair stylists and salon owners alike. Hailing from a salon background, Genesis grad Vish Color has developed a revolutionary solution to dissolve these common industry problems. The company has created a smart hair color management system that allows colorists to precisely match manufacturer and client color specifications, track inventory usage, and avoid unnecessary wastage. Their system features a smart scale built specifically for the salon industry, as well as a cloud-connected system that allows stylists to work across various devices in real time.

Founder, Tim Howard, has had a whirlwind of a month; from being recognized at the Atlantic Venture Forum to completing the highly regarded FounderFuel accelerator program, Vish Color is proving they have a cutting edge in the entrepreneurial ecosystem.

The company recently took home Best Presenting Company in the Early Stage category at the Atlantic Venture Forum this past June. Competing against four other emerging companies, Vish presented their five minute pitch to a panel of seasoned investors. The Forum is host to Atlantic Canada’s most innovative companies focused in IT, sustainable technology, as well as life sciences and health technology. Various members of the community were represented at the conference, including industry experts, incubators and accelerators, investors, and more.

Acting as somewhat of a preview to the seventh annual Startupfest, the FounderFuel program held its Demo Day for the 2017 cohort this Tuesday. Demo Day is the capstone event of the FounderFuel program; providing participants with an outlet to pitch their business to hundreds of potential investors. Selected from about 200 applicants, Vish Color was one of six Atlantic companies in the last 10 years to be chosen for the leading accelerator program. The three-month intensive program equips entrepreneurs with valuable mentors, access to financing, a network of potential investors, as well as pre-seed funding from Real Ventures.

Vish Color continues to attract new attention and gain traction on its entrepreneurial journey.
