It’s “U” and “I”
Although being spoilt several times already, we’ve still got a surprise for you visioners!
As we’ve been previously hinting, a team of designers responsible for the TradingView terminal are currently in the process of a complete Genesis Vision UX/UI overhaul.
Now, we have the awesome opportunity of giving you an exclusive sneak peek at the future of the platforms design. We are not sharing these mockups with you this early with an intention of showing off or teasing you, it is done for the practical reason of gathering the second wave of feedback.
This is a showcase of what we’ve been working on, so you can add your five cents on the topic and leave your suggestions prior to the designs finalisation. Please note, that the work is still in progress.
So without further ado, let’s jump right in!
Correcting mistakes
Being a self-proclaimed community driven project, we started working on new designs in strict accordance with your feedback and suggestions that we received over the course of the Alpha version.
What an overwhelming amount of feedback it was! It became obvious that we didn’t completely think through some of the user interface and experience aspects, but that is why we have Alpha development stages, right?
We started off with completely rethinking the dashboard section. Not that we received many complaints about its current state… But we digress!
Now you can track the current state of your assets, monitor the progress of the manager in real time and track the history of changes in the performance of your assets, all from within the dashboard. You can also see a list of recent transactions, meaning that when you log into the Platform you can immediately see if there are any updates on your assets.
Furthermore, in the dashboard you can see the statuses of the trading programs, the top trending programs along with the current price of the Genesis Vision token! How cool is that?
When Steve Jobs described the first iOS design, he said that they’ve made the icons look so good, you would want to lick them.
Our team is not yet sure if we want to go that far but that said, all of the charts also enjoyed a total makeover, resulting in very informative and visually appealing graphs.
Also, with the timely addition of notifications you will be able to see things in order of most important first! Notification systems have often been overlooked and underestimated however they’re a primary source of user-platform interaction, so you’d better make it good! (hence we have)
Now let’s have a smooth transition to the “All programs” section, where we have another nice little updated feature.
If you have the parameter of “Date Range” selected as “Current Period”, all of the programs will show the average profitability for their specific reporting period.
But let’s say you have two different trading programs you are considering to invest in, but one of them has a period of a day, and the other one has a reporting period of a month. Both of them will show their average profitability per reporting period, so how would you compare them?
We’ve got that covered! — By simply selecting another “Date Range” parameter (for example a week), all of the programs profitabilities will be recalculated to a weeks average value, which will make the comparison of programs with different reporting periods enormously easier.
As you can see from the image above, we now have “special featured programs”, that will be displayed and selected based on various parameters. This should come in handy for the newcomers to the platform and all sorts of the general public, plus we presume it should feel nice for the manager to have his trading program personally picked out!
This sentence is better read in an inner wizard voice: once you click a desired program from the list it will expand and open up like a data chest, containing the most important information about this particular program.
The wallet section is now very clean and straightforward. You wouldn’t want a cluttered mess of a wallet, so this new minimalistic design does not only look better but it serves its purpose damn well.
Investment and withdrawal processes were simplified to the point of several clicks. Also good news for two and a half QR enthusiasts: now you can scan a QR code in order to make a deposit, simple as that!
If you are on the “Program details” webpage, you can click any graph segment to see detailed information about that specific segment. On the whole, the new interface design provides many more tools for thorough analysis and proper evaluations.
All the important statistics are accurately located right on the program details page. Most of the stats are very straightforward and self-explanatory, such as the number of investors or the percentage of successful trades.
Some of them are a bit tricky though for example, the Sharpe ratio and profit factor.
The Sharpe ratio is one of the most famous risk/return measures used in finance today, it was created by a Nobel laureate William F. Sharpe, so you know it’s good. The ratio describes how much excess return you are receiving for the extra volatility that you endure for holding a riskier asset. Generally, the greater the value of the Sharpe ratio, the more attractive the risk-adjusted return, which refines an investment’s return by measuring how much risk is involved in producing that return.
If that sounds too complicated, you really don’t want to see the formula for it!
The profit factor is a tad simpler for understanding and is defined as the gross profit divided by the gross loss for the entire trading period.
And in case those statistics are just not enough for you and you want more in the future — we are waiting for your suggestions with arms wide open, Visioners!
If you want to make it more personal, we now have a dedicated manager section where you can easily find all of the particular manager’s other trading programs and check out his total historical profitability over all of the previously created programs.
Here is another enhancement — all of the monetary values on the platform are represented in the form of GVT, which can be quite tricky to convert to other values, especially considering the volatility of crypto assets. Thus, we now have an option to select a secondary currency from within your account settings.
Once you’ve selected your secondary currency, all of the GVT values (dashboard, charts, trades) will also be represented in the currency you’ve chosen. You can choose pretty much any currency as your secondary, including main crypto and fiat players, like BTC, ETH, USD, EUR and many more..
It’s one of those tiny features, that you don’t really care about at first, but can’t live without afterwards.
Another minor, but important update — a dedicated window with all of the level information. All of the important information is now contained within the platform, and you don’t need to go to any extra source to dig out some percentage or whatnot.
And we know that quite a few of you have been asking for this, so now we have both light and dark versions of the platform! Whether you are a sleepyhead or an early bird, brunette or blonde, you like light tones or dark ones — we’ve got you covered!
Mobile version
Needless to say, the mobile versions of the platform will also be completely redesigned, but we will only slightly touch upon the mobile UX. Of course it does have all of the essential mobile application bells and whistles you’d expect, the dedicated 2-factor authentication section and push-notifications, but apart from that it is almost a carbon copy of the web version.
We understand how important the mobile experience is, so we will also share the full mobile UX map for all of you to see and suggest improvements.
Summing up
The team of designers formerly working on TradingView clearly know what is up and what’s relevant, when it comes to clean and functional designs. The new platform is a working horse and will provide you with so much data; you wouldn’t know what to do with it.
The main idea of the redesign was to create an instrument, that is extremely comfortable to work with. Everything became more compact, and the density of the information increased greatly. We also tried to make the new design easily scalable, so adding new features or functionality shouldn’t be a headache from a tech perspective either.
Please don’t view this article as a complete platform walkthrough; this is merely a collection of new features that we were desperate to share with you. As of right now, we have created a dedicated subreddit thread, where you can find the full-sized images and where you can conveniently leave your feedback and ideas.
In this Reddit thread, you will be able to find our complete UX map for both web and mobile versions of the platform, this should provide a decent understanding of the user experience we’re aiming for. We believe that our new designs are a huge improvement, albeit there is always room for more.
Please keep in mind, that everything shown today is still a work in progress. All of the further development of the design will be based on your feedback and will steer the way our community wants it to pivot.
If you have any ideas on how to improve our UX or UI — now is the prime time to speak up.
After all, it’s “U” and “I”.
