Health in Her Hue- Improving Healthcare for Black Women.
As a former epidemiologist and a black woman, I have first hand knowledge of the health challenges faced by women of color. Which is why I’m proud to announce Genius Guild’s Greenhouse Fund investment in Health In Her HUE (HHH) — an innovative company working to improve healthcare for women of color. With the new funding, HHH will be focused on developing a new platform and a membership experience that will offer women customized care support via tailored content, consultations, care recommendations, and other care benefits.
Health In Her HUE creates a seamless experience for women to connect with culturally aligned and sensitive healthcare providers, and access relevant health content, and community. The platform already features over 1,000 culturally sensitive healthcare providers including doctors, doulas, midwives, lactation consultants, therapists, and nutritionists, and is continuing to grow its community. Founders Ashlee Wisdom and Eddwina Bright are dedicated to creating a world where Black women can trust in and feel comfortable with their healthcare providers.
According to the CDC, Black women are two to three times more likely to die during childbirth than white women. In fact, when women of color have a culturally sensitive doctor, their outcomes improve. And what’s more, Black patients have had their complaints dismissed, their pain undertreated, and are referred less frequently for specialty care.
The trade-offs are evident in Black women’s health outcomes and use of medical care. Compared to white women, Black women are less likely to be insured, face greater financial barriers to care when they need it, and are less likely to access prenatal care. Black women experience higher rates of many preventable diseases and chronic health conditions including higher rates of diabetes, hypertension and cardiovascular disease — all of which influence both maternal and infant health outcomes.
Ashlee and Eddwina are providing access to quality healthcare for Black women who have been traditionally overlooked and stymied from having successful birth outcomes. They have tapped a marketplace that has been ignored for too long and are uniquely positioned to provide quality care for the half a million Black women who give birth each year in the U.S.
Health In Her HUE is a much-needed solution that will fill a gap in the digital healthcare market for women who have been underserved by the traditional healthcare system. We couldn’t be more pleased to welcome HHH to our family.
