Always Burning, Never Bridging

A Cautionary Tale

he burns everything he sees
and everyone he meets
takes takes takes
hustling to the nth degree
I want to see
what she sees in him
but bridges are built on
feeble, burnt out
rotted planks

he rebuilds with
manipulation and charisma
showing only the aspects
of his heart that
resonates to you
from a cold abyss
I know the feelings
run deep and dark
and yet experience has shown
that to trust
deteriorates in a wake
of broken promises

I want to see the good
yet know the moment
an inch is given
the miles loom wide
with disappointment
learning to love unconditionally
with safe walls built high
into the stormy skies
“he is a unique predator”
spoken in the hour of truthing
