Cedars Are Strong and Proud

The home of osprey and other birds of prey - GiaB writing prompt #23 trees

Photo by Author — Channing Park

The cedars line the pond, strong and proud
and see their reflection on the still glass below
the home of osprey and other birds of prey
as they circle high above.

In a flash the fish hawk sails
straight to the water’s face
grasping in its talons
the unwitting victim of the day.

He soars back to his perch above
to swing mightily in the evening air
with never a care for those
that lie under his constant stare.

The tallest and the fairest prevail
with roots deep in the swampy grass
the cedars will stand here when all else has passed
their reflection still fast in the waters below.
