Loosening Our Knotted Selves

A poem

Loosening Our Knotted Selves | A poem by Aimée Gramblin in Genius in a Bottle on Medium

I took myself
stretched myself
thin and thinner,
tied myself
into a
tight
knot.

Tied
knot
after
knot
again
again
again

until
a million
tiny
knots
formed a
stressed out
burnt out
blown out
shorted out
version of myself.

Wisdom whispered,
“Come back to yourself.”

It was time to
untie the knots.
It required
gentleness
gentle finesse
patience
with myself
and time
to untangle

guilt
anger
shame
anxiety
depression.
