That Day

A poem

Everything changed that day,
all because of one man’s touch.
Unexpected and unwelcome
it shook me to my core
and left me different to before,
before that touch that day.

Everything changed that day.
From that day I’d be nervous,
always on guard,
even with my own husband.
It changed so much of me,
even my personality.

My family felt the change
brought about by the stranger.
My confidence gone,
flinching at every touch.
My place of work, where it happened
all became too much, so I left.

I can still feel his hand moving,
stealing something from me.
“Just a touch and feel” they said,
“get over it”, but it won’t leave my head.
I can’t quite find a way to say
what he took from me that day.
