Use your fingertips, not your eyes

Use your fingertips not your eyes
to find the pearl in a pebble pile.

Color can fool you, so can size
but the satin skin of rarity

speaks wordless volumes
to the uncluttered mind.

We are told to use all our senses
which at times of course is wise

but to find a pearl in a pebble heap
trust in touch and specialize

in the prehensile clasp
of the untutored heart.
