DNA testing is becoming a popular holiday gift. Last year, the 23andMe test kit was one of the best-sellers on Amazon on Black Friday. And AncestryDNA sold over 1.5M test kits during the span of the three-day Black Friday weekend.

Thinking of cashing in on the DNA testing deals this year?

If so, we’re here to help you make a more informed decision on which DNA test to buy!

Based on the holiday sales during the 2017 holiday season, we analyzed the discounts that are likely to be offered by the leading DNA testing companies this year along with its timing. Companies analyzed include AncestryDNA, 23andMe and MyHeritage. Here’s a short summary below.

Takeaway

Here’s our advice on how to act smart and get the best deals this year based on your objectives. Our suggestions assume that similar sales will be offered this year too.

  • 23andMe’s offer of $49/kit when you buy more than two kits seems very competitive. But it was only available until Thanksgiving Day, so act fast if you want to get in on that deal.
  • AncestryDNA had a “buy 3 get 1 free” sale at some points during the 2017 holiday season. If you want to do bulk DNA testing with your family and start building out your family tree in time for the family reunion, this may be a sweet option.
  • MyHeritage offered the lowest pricing during Black Friday — $49/kit. If you just want to get 1 kit for yourself, this is your best option. In addition, MyHeritage accepts uploads of 23andMe and AncestryDNA data for free.
