GenTales February Newsletter
Happy Groundhog Day!
Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow and I woke up to negative 14 degree weather so I’m settling in under a blanket to read until Spring.
Here are the great articles from GenTales in the last month that you may have missed.
We had articles from Dora O'Connell, Paul van Gool, Jacqueline Jannotta, and myself (Alicia M Prater, PhD).
Dora’s article on how her ancestor saved a life but lost a fortune started us out on New Year’s Day.
Paul’s featured article on an unexpected genealogic find in Rotterdam was similar to the re-emergence of Civil War ambrotypes in my family that I wrote about. Photos can tell a story even if you have trouble determining who is in them. He also shared his work with Google Gemini, their AI program, in discerning his AncestryDNA results.
Our other featured article this last month was Jacqueline’s experience in chasing down ancestors on the wrong side of the tracks. She visited what remains of where they used to live and discussed the difficulties class division create in genealogical research.
Hopefully, these stories and those coming this month keep you occupied as you wait for Spring. If you’d like to write for GenTales, our submission guidelines are available here.
