Marching Towards Spring
I hope the weather is being kind to you wherever you are. Here in New Hampshire we’ve had snowstorm after snowstorm the last 2–3 weeks. March certainly is coming in like a lion, but hopefully it’s just in a hurry to get to Spring.
After the great start to the year with the January offerings, February was slow, so there’s only one story to share with you and I have included that at the end. So first, let’s add a little inspiration.
Call for Submissions
Talking about Spring, I want you to think about “new beginnings”.
- Is there a line of genealogy or family history research you’ve gone back to? Is there a brick wall you finally broke through?
- Was there an event in your family tree that changed the family (geographically, financially, politically, socially, etc.) when looking back?
- Is there an amazing immigration story in your family tree?
- I’m adding a new topic area to the publication — see the next section below.
For new writers, please do read up on the submission guidelines. There aren’t many rules, but we focus on genealogy and family history.
Ancestral Woman 31-day Challenge
March is Women’s History Month, and MissionGenealogy on Substack is doing a 31-day challenge to post each day (using the Notes feature) about a female ancestor. This could be a great idea for a GenTales on Medium story — you wouldn’t be here without your female ancestors! Let’s read about them!
You can also write about your participation in similar challenges — I’m adding a new niche to the publication about community and participation in it as it is a huge part of genealogy research. For example, RootsTech is happening this week and you can write about your experiences or thoughts on it.
February’s articles
Now in case you missed it, I wrote this story about poet Richard Lovelace’s sister and the political murder of her husband Rev. John Gorsuch that caused her to flee to Virginia Colony.
I’m looking forward to reading your contributions to GenTales this month!
