Is it Zennials or Zillennials?

Both Zennial and Zillennial are terms used to describe the same micro-generation born on the cusp of Gen Z and Millennials. The Zennial version was derived from Xennials who are the previous micro generation on the cusp of Gen X and Millennials. Zillennials is a term derived from a combination of Gen Z and Millennials.

What are the different versions of Zellenials?

Zillenials, also spelled Zillennials, are the newest micro-generation which are sometimes called Zennials. The singular versions of Zennial and Zilennial are sometimes used, however, the term “Zillennial” is the most searched version on Google.

Zillennial definition

The debate about the years that Zellennials were born centers around a window between 1993 to 1999. One distinguishing factor between a Gen Zer and a Zillennial is that Zillennials were born before the 9–11 Attack in 2001 signaled the rise of terrorism. Zellennials were the first generation to enter into their adolescence after witnessing the 9–11 Attack on television.

Who are Zillennials?

Put simply, Zillennials is a micro-generation that sits in between Millennials and Generation Z. While they identify with key parts of the Millennial and the Gen Z experience, they’re considered either ‘too young’ or ‘too old’ to have participated fully in either set of social and cultural norms.

Millennials were born between 1981 and 1996. The next generation Gen Z spans the period from 1997 to 2012. This places Zillennials as a blend of two generations with unique spending habits who grew up on earlier forms of the internet and social media. The generational divide between these three groups is much smaller than with past generations such as the Baby Boomers, Gen X, and the Silent Generation.

The Zillennial Years

Because the term is so new, the age bracket for Zillennials is quite fluid. Most commentators define Zillennials as people born between 1993 and 1998, overlapping neatly with the tail-end of the Millennial generation and the beginning of Gen Z.
