If not noticed yet, GEO University provides courses that, apart from GIS and Earth Observation, are also dedicated to space and space applications!

Currently two space oriented courses are on board:

Introduction to electromagnetic radiation for the space industry

and

Radio Frequency measurement and simulation for the space industry

Electromagnetics and Radio Frequency engineering are often called the black art of engineering. This is not really true, as there is no magic involved, but it is a subject that is often missed in engineering courses. So, these courses can be your guide to the basics that you need to know in order to start unraveling the mystery of electromagnetics!

Develop a greater understanding of electromagnetic radiation, how and why it is used in the space industry!

Through the first course, you will understand what electromagnetic radiation is made from and the key properties used in the space industry. You will look at the important equations defining the properties of electromagnetic radiation. The main uses of electromagnetic radiation in the space industry will be covered, and you will reveal the reason why Radio Frequency is the most common used frequency.

Start to understand the complexities of Radio Frequency testing and the intrigue of simulation!

The second video course will introduce you to the world of Radio Frequency hardware measurement, test and simulation. It will give you the underlying fundamentals to understand the work and begin your journey to being a Radio Frequency engineer.

More specifically, you will understand what it takes to test and simulate Radio Frequency hardware: you will look at the different types of test hardware used, when to use them, and how to interpret the results. Two different real-life test set ups will be discussed, showing how the work is carried out in real life, and their results will be shown. After this you will move onto electromagnetic simulation, looking at how they work and common packages available. A demonstration of a real-life simulation step by step will be done and you will be shown how the results are interpreted.

What will you learn in Introduction to electromagnetic radiation for the space industry course?

  • What is electromagnetic radiation
  • The electromagnetic spectrum and uses
  • Properties of electromagnetic equations
  • Important equations to describe electromagnetic equations
  • How atmospheric absorption impacts the space industry
  • Sections of the RF and microwave spectrum used in the space industry

What will you learn in Radio Frequency measurement and simulation for the space industry course?

  • The hardware used to test Radio Frequency hardware
  • Types of Radio Frequency hardware testing — bench, free space and anechoic chambers
  • How to set up a bench measurement and interpret the results
  • How to set up an anechoic chamber measurement and example results
  • How electromagnetic simulation is used in the space industry
  • Types of electromagnetic simulation
  • How to set up an electromagnetic simulation and interpret the results

Join the space industry by understanding from the scratch some basic concepts and applications.

Structured in a way that they make understanding the complexities easy, with these courses all you will need is willingness to learn and curiosity to enter your career into new paths!

More courses on space industry will be added soon, so stay up-to-date by following the social media accounts of GEO University (Facebook, LinkedIn, twitter), or sign up for free for e-mail notifications!
