Lidl and Aldi continue to lead the table in new openings, with Lidl currently breaking into central London with a site on Tottenham Court Road scheduled to open in Summer 2020, and Aldi being the only grocer whose sales growth broke into double-digits over Easter, cementing their position as 5th in market share.

Tesco’s new fascia Jack’s are growing slowly, with 3 further stores opening in Castle Bromwich (1 Nov), Rawtenstall (3 Apr) and Barnsley (10 Dec) towards their 2019 goal of 15, the latter being the first new build rather than a conversion of an existing Tesco Metro or Superstore. May saw the experimental introduction of Jack’s branded products being stocked in some of their larger stores, potentially to see whether doing so permanently in the future could be viable.
