Last weekend, on 15th and 16th of September, the GEO Protocol core team took part in a hackathon hosted by Distributed Lab. The event was sponsored by NEM, Bloqly and our friends REMME and Kuna. The hackathon was a part of the BlockchainUA conference, which was attended by 1,000 people.

Our core developer team, including Dmitry Chizhevsky, Mykola Ilashchuk, Vitaliy Gataulin and Aleksei Korobeinikov was working on off-chain multi-equivalent payment on Ethereum. In fact, the team implemented off-chain solution for swapping assets between ERC20 tokens and native ethereum as a PoC of possibility to swap various assets from different ecosystems (BTC/Ethereum/etc.). Our team achieved their objective, and the judges fairly rewarded their 30-hour efforts with third place.

The developers connected the GEO Protocol system to the Ethereum network and built a state channel to conduct transactions quickly and without putting additional load on the blockchain. In addition, there were two more teams that used GEO Protocol technologies to complete their tasks. One of the teams received awards from both the host and sponsors. After a short presentation of the solutions created, the teams were rewarded by the main sponsors.

The hackathon brought out a lot of positive emotions in our team! For two days our developers gained an unforgettable experience, met a lot of new people and discussed many interesting topics regarding further developments for the crypto industry, blockchain technology and off-chain solutions in particular.

We hope that Distributed Lab will provide blockchain enthusiasts and developers with the opportunity to work on similarly challenging tasks again. Thanks to the hosts and sponsors for overseeing such a wonderful event!
