Dear community!

Last month brought us important progress in several fields. We are carrying on with the project’s development and are also trying to resonate more with the tech and blockchain community. It worth to mention, that in January we were working on the launch of the GEO Protocol’s BETA version, and the exact launch date will be announced closer to the release (hopefully this will happen really soon!) We started to build the strong foundations for the GEO ecosystem last year, and in 2019 we will see it working and developing further.

Development Progress

Observers:

  • The settings structure of Observer’s node is changed. Now it supports two modes: test mode and production mode.
  • GEO Nodes-Observers communication protocol is added: 12 requests/responses in total.
  • All the above mentioned changes are covered with automated tests completely or partially.
  • Observers’ code base is cleaned from obsolete code.
  • Automatic code base quality analysis services are online. Our grade is B: great result for this stage.
  • We have found a critical error in the Observers’ pool function that interferes with the test.net launch.

GEO Node:

  • Observers’ protocol support structure created.
  • Payment operations for Observers’ support addition renewed. Specifications are yet to be renewed.
  • Data flow exchange with the Observers is partially tested.
  • GEO node internal command structure is renewed. We improved this part of the code base significantly, and fully covered the parsing of all commands with automated tests.
  • We optimized the code base and simplified its future support.

GSR Middleware:

  • The GSR (GEO Services Registry) contract is renewed.
  • Middleware requirements for communication with the GSR contract are specified and the first build is received.
  • Started to cover the middleware with automated tests.

Specs:

  • GEO Nodes-Observers data exchange protocol specifications are added (GEO GitHub link).

Communication and Media Highlights

In January, the GEO Protocol team added a lot of effort to research and generate new high-quality content that, will be of interest for the tech community. Here are the highlights covered by external media and blogs:

Our insight into what we call Layer 3 solutions was published on HackerNoon by Max Demyan, CEO at GEO Protocol.

Glad to see the GEO mentioned as an L2 solution for blockchain scalability problem on Bravenewcoin:

Also, you can read our team’s thoughts on the creation and use of regional and community currencies, and the economic effect of their introduction on Blockt:

Furthermore, we prepared big research on means of exchange in a decentralized credit network co-authorig by Dmitry Bondar, journalist and economist, and Max Demyan, CEO at GEO Protocol:

Also, we prepared a big study in three parts on Evolution of consensus mechanisms: from classical methods to local consensus, so you can read it right here in our Medium blog: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3.

The meeting on development and marketing for Jan-Feb 2019 at the GEO Protocol office.
