Plumas National Forest

When I was living on the east coast, seeing the leaves change color was a sign saying, it’s time to finish the year strong. California, however, has much more moderate temperatures. In some ways, one tends to lose track of time on the west coast because the seasons are very similar. This year, I wanted to see the fall colors and tried to organize a quick impromptu trip to the east side of California. While doing research, I found a website called California Fall Colors where they have this map from readers of where the colors are just ripe.

That helped us decide where we would need to go. After much debate, we decided to go to Plumas National Forest where we would stay in a town called Quincy. Along the way, we stopped by a number of bridges of different styles. Some had a wood deck, some were Warren Trusses, and some Pratt.

We followed this map and drove on route E21 which was just peaking.

We stoped in town to watch the sunset afterwards. Pretty colors, but did not find the perfect spot to view it.

After finally making it to Quincy, we found out that the room next door was booked up for Halloweed… Our neighbors partied hard and were pretty loud, but I guess 50 year olds can only go til 2am. We had contemplated why we didn’t book a room at another motel that we found on the internet. I guess we were lucky that the other place didn’t have any vacancy. The next morning, we left to catch the sunrise and found the other motel was up in flames……

The sunrise was amazing and we checked out Feather River, Indian Valley and Taylorsville. The drive back to San Francisco was not at all pleasant. But it’s about journey, not the destination.
