MIT 150: String Tunnel

MIT 150 Installation
During MIT’s 150 anniversary, our school hosted an open house even to the public. This gave opportunity to display the latest architectural innovations of our school, both for professors and students. I covered a few of the installations and documented so they could end up in the designers portfolio.

Although the path from Kendall Square to the main campus is familiar to students, faculty and staff, visitors to MIT often get lost trying to find the main campus buildings. String Tunnel is a pathfinder to the Infinite Corridor that continues the wayfinding begun in the Chroma District, although in a completely different way. In this case, the diaphanous tunnel or archway is created from nylon threads. The installation serve not only to creates a sense of entry to and from the Infinite Corridor, but it also frames the views around them.
