Summary and Location
Cologne is a 2,000-year-old city on the Rhine in western Germany and the cultural centre of its region. The city’s landmark is the Gothic cathedral with its two towers. It stands in the reconstructed old town and is famous for its Dreikönigsschrein and the view over the Rhine.
Nearby Dusseldorf is the capital of the state Northrine Westphalia. South of Cologne is the city of Bonn, which was the former capital of Germany until 1990.
The Neatherlands are very close, so it’s definately worth traveling to Maastricht, Amsterdam or the sea (3 hrs by car) having a wonderful day at the beach. Yes beach :-)

Belgian Quarter (Belgisches Viertel) downtown, the spot for the young people with many boutiques, cafes, bars and restaurants. Also a main spot for nightlife fun.
Ehrenfeld with lot’s of small shops and boutiques also.
Old Town (Altstadt) at the river with huge promenade to enjoy the river side. Here nice pubs and Kölsch breweries.
Cologne Cathedral (Dom) very impressive church.
Zülpicher Straße for nightlife activities.
