Passau — attractive university city known as the City of Three Rivers
Passau is an attractive university city not far from the Bavarian Alps, and is home to a wide range of events and attractions, as well as three different rivers. It is also known for having the most pubs of any city in Germany, relative to its size, and is home to not one but three breweries — the Löwenbrauerei, the Hacklberg Brewery and the Andorfer Brewery.

Dult Festival
The Dult takes place twice a year, once in spring and once in autumn. Similar in style to nearby Munich’s Oktoberfest, the Dult features brilliant local beers, well-appointed beer tents, traditional German food, music, a funfair, and of course, plenty of Lederhosen.

The Three Rivers
Three different rivers come together in Passau’s beautiful old town — the Inn, the Ilz and the Danube. Each river is a different colour, making the point at which they meet look absolutely spectacular.
St Stephen’s Cathedral
St Stephen’s Cathedral located on the highest point of the old town, houses the biggest cathedral organ in the world. With 17,974 pipes, 233 stops and 4 carrillons, it really is quite a sight. The cathedral itself also has an interesting history — after it burnt down in 1662, it was completely rebuit in the magnificent Baroque style seen today.
Veste Oberhaus
The Veste Oberhaus is an ancient fortress, founded in 1299 on a hill right beside the old town. Invaders tried to conquer it several times throughout history, but never succeeded. Today the building is made up of a variety of architectural styles, with Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque elements. The fortress affords a wonderful view over the entire city and the surrounding countryside, and contains exhibitions on the history of Passau.

Glass Museum
Considered to be the most beautiful collection of glass pieces in the world by Swiss author Friedrich Dürrenmatt, the Passau Glass Museum is home to glass objects from a wide variety of different time periods. It is an important research centre for European glassmaking and glass objects from 1650 to 1950, and contains beautiful pieces in the Rococo, Baroque, Modernist, Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles among others.

Nightlife
Passau is famous for its beer — “Hacklberg” and “Andorfer” are particular favourites with the locals. The city also has fantastic night life, with something on every day of the week — and nightclubs so close together that, should you fancy going to another club at some point in the evening, you can just walk next door.
