The topic and debate of prohibition was a great one, this remains true even in Phelps County, Missouri. As seen in the clipping of a newspaper article from Phelps County, many had opinions on the topic.

It seems for the most part that the residents of Phelps County we very anti-prohibition and as such the opinions of the article side with that side.

The Phelps article briefly mentions the “revenue feature of the question” calling it of “grave concern” is mirrored in this source from class.

The source talks about how “Missouri was the second largest wine producing state” obviously both articles seem to touch on the topic of how the economic effect of prohibition took its toll on people.

This economic debate runs counter to a political cartoon found from another source from class.

While the political cartoon talks about the negatives of brewers with phrases such as “We Make People Poor,” “We Cause Poverty and Crime,” and “We Are Against Progress”. Specifically the part about making people poor as found in the newspaper clipping the alcohol industry provided a lot of economic value and in turn almost had an opposite effect of making people poorer.
