As the coronavirus crisis continues in Philadelphia, many community members are experiencing job loss and economic hardships which can lead to an increased need for food pantries. Below is a list of food resources in or near Germantown.
Where: 123 Price street parking lot
When: Monday, Thursday and Fridays, noon to 2 p.m
About: Face to Face is a nonprofit human services organization committed to improving the community through health, well-being, and stability. During the pandemic Face to Face will distribute “grab and go” hot meals, fresh produce and food packages.
2. Germantown Avenue Crisis Ministry
Where: 35 West Chelten Avenue
When: Thursdays, 10 a.m. to noon
About: Germantown Avenue Crisis Ministry works to connect Northwest Philadelphia residents to resources. They offers several services, including grocery food distribution. The ministry usually operates as choice food pantry, where people choose their items, but due to COVID-19, their food cupboard items are prepackaged.
St. Luke’s Episcopal Church Friday Food Cupboard
Where: 5421 Germantown Avenue
When: Fridays, 9 to 9:45 a.m.
About: St. Luke’s Episcopal Church is a Christian organization in Germantown. Their food cupboard is year round, but have adapted their routine to appease city recommendations of staying safe during COVID-19. They have prepared 40 bags of non-perishable food items will be given outside the church doors.
4. Germantown Masjid Ramadan Food Delivery
When: Call for delivery, 267-237–0414
About: The Germantown Masjid created Iftar, their food delivery program for those participating in Ramadan. Each person can receive a hot meal delivered during the religious fasting.
Neighbor Food Pantries
Where: 200 Block of Rittenhouse St.
When: Everyday as supplies last
About: Siegel began a GoFundMe to support her mini food pantry. Her pantry consists of non-perishable food items, toiletries and baby supplies like diapers and wipes.
6. Dana Rummery
Where: 600 Block of Rittenhouse St.
When: Everyday as supplies last
About: Rummery’s food pantry encourages the community to take what they need and leave what they can. Items include canned goods, rice, dressings and other non-perishable items.
City of Philadelphia Food Sites for Adults & Students
These sites are sponsored by the city. Residents can pick up one box per household. Boxes contain non-perishable items on Mondays and fresh produce on Thursdays. For student locations with one day for pick up, each student will receive a box containing five breakfast and five lunch meals.
