Published 10 years ago today, took us to the places we longed for — the first of its kind in our Rock the Shack Cabin Collection.

For the first time in the history of humankind, more people were living in cities than in the country. Yet, more and more city dwellers began yearning for rural farms, mountain cabins, or seaside homes. These places of escape offered modern men and women a promise of what urban centres couldn’t provide: quiet, relaxation, a sense of being out of reach, of getting back to basics, and feeling human again.

Rock the Shack was, and still is, a survey of such contemporary getaways around the world-from basic to luxury. The book features a compelling range of sparing to intricately furnished cabins, cottages, second homes, tree houses, transformations, shelters, and cocoons. What these diverse projects have in common is an exceptional spirit that melds the uniqueness of a geographic location with the individual character of the building’s owner and architect.
