A photo I took of driftlog at Point Reyes beach, does anyone see blue and gold?

Two months ago, I’d decided to move beyond cassette music reviews…feeling increasingly alienated by clickbait that generalized my tastes and thoughts. Without premeditation, I put Absurdist into the world with the help of a few friends and it’s been growing healthily.

Now we want to build a publication for people who see the world differently.

If you’ve grown tired of advertorials and tech gurus, Absurdist only publishes the profound & pointless. So far we’ve published essays on grout graffiti, a feminist in a strip club, Black History Month, IKEA and as always cassette reviews. I hope you’ll write something odd for us, think of it as the skunk works of culture essays.

Collaboration

We’re an open and accepting community of writers and creatives. You prototype an essay while we edit and bring it to a small audience.

To submit a draft, simply leave a note here with a link to your Medium draft and tell us a bit about yourself.

After that, I’ll go over your essay to see if it’s a fit — before adding you as a writer to Absurdist. I’ll leave a comment to let you know to add your essay to the publication along with a mention of the assigned editor. Our editors take the time to make careful edits and source artworks so that each essay not only fits our editorial style, but is showcased gorgeously.

Join Absurdist

If you like the idea of joining a small creative community and have a frustrated passion looking for a outlet, do introduce yourself either with a comment here, by writing to getabsurdist@gmail.com or on twitter @YungRama. Our roster includes a few designers, music folk, writers and illustrators…we’d love to meet you.

Welcome to Absurdist, the absurd is that part of man’s situation which is intractable to generalizations or system-making.
