How can I help Get America Covered?

Ready to get started helping people sign up for health coverage? This year’s Open Enrollment period is the shortest it has ever been — it starts on November 1, and you must sign up by December 15 to have insurance in 2018 in any state that uses the federal marketplace. That’s not much time, which means we need everyone’s help in getting the word out.

The good news: everyone can pitch in and spread the word. Doesn’t matter if you’re a business or a mayor or someone who just wants to make sure their friends and neighbors are ready to sign up.

If you’re wanting to help, here’s a few ideas to get you started:

• Start or join an Open Enrollment street team. Sign up to get started! Since the administration slashed its advertising budget, we need to make sure that people know that Open Enrollment for most states runs from Nov 1 to Dec 15. So, here’s what you can do: grab your friends, print out materials and hit the streets. Go out in your community — visit your local library, talk to small business owners, reach out to your pharmacist, head down to your favorite coffee shop, visit with your faith leader — and see who is willing to put up a poster or hand out brochures. Or if you want to go out by yourself and talk to people in your community about displaying Open Enrollment information, you can do that too. When you sign up, we will send you all the materials and information you’ll need to get started.
• Share key facts on Facebook and Twitter. The easiest thing you can do is to use your social media accounts to spread the word about Open Enrollment. Find graphics here to include in your Facebook or Twitter posts. Need an idea for what you should post?

• Get ready to help out during Open Enrollment! Right now, the most important thing we can do is to put up signs and get the facts out to people. Starting on November 1, people will be able to sign up for health care. There will be a lot more to do when Open Enrollment starts — plan and attend events, set up information tables, volunteer to help navigators — sign up now to make sure we have your information so we know you’re ready to take action between November 1 and December 15.

If we’re going to make sure that people know about Open Enrollment and that most people qualify for financial help, it will take all of us joining in to make it happen. Let’s get started!
