Release: New Affordability Data Show That Two-Thirds of HealthCare.gov Customers Can Get Covered for $10 or Less a Month
In Key States For Open Enrollment Such As Florida and Texas, More Than 75% of HealthCare.gov Customers Can Find Plans For Less Than $10 Per Month
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: October 28, 2019
(Washington, D.C.) — New data released by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) show that two-thirds (67 percent) of consumers shopping for coverage on HealthCare.gov this year can purchase comprehensive coverage for $10 or less per month. The new data comes ahead of this year’s Open Enrollment period, which kicks off this Friday, November 1 and ends on December 15.
“Affordability is the number one concern for consumers shopping for coverage,” said Joshua Peck, co-founder of Get America Covered. “This data shows that the overwhelming majority of marketplace consumers will be able to find comprehensive coverage that is very affordable. Ahead of this Friday’s kickoff of Open Enrollment, consumers can go to HealthCare.gov right now to find out if they are eligible for tax credits and check out the extremely affordable coverage options available.”
Last week, Get America Covered released a national survey of 300 adults who are currently insured through the marketplaces as well as 400 uninsured individuals who are eligible to enroll for 2020. One of its key findings was a significant gap between consumers’ perception of affordability versus the reality that almost 9-in-10 marketplace consumers are eligible for tax credits and the vast majority can find coverage at a price that they consider to be affordable.
“As this data shows, CMS has the information, resources, and reach necessary to help educate people about just how affordable and easy it is to get covered,” said Peck. “Unfortunately, they are doing just the opposite, and our survey provides concrete new evidence of how the gap between perception and reality is undermining Open Enrollment. In the weeks ahead, we will be working to make sure that as many consumers as possible understand the affordable options available to make sure they and their families can get the comprehensive coverage they want.”
