DENVER — Today, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released a new report announcing that over two million people have signed up for health care coverage since the beginning of the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) Special Enrollment Period (SEP) that began on February 15.

Get America Covered executive director and health care advocate Laura Packard released the following statement:

“More than two million Americans now have health insurance because of the Biden administration’s Special Enrollment Period and the subsidies included in the American Rescue Plan — and those numbers only continue to increase. The Affordable Care Act, Medicaid and all of the critical health care programs extended to millions struggling to regain financial, physical and mental well-being during this pandemic are evidence that high-quality, affordable health care is paramount to the prosperity of our nation.” said Get America Covered Executive Director Laura Packard.

“The Affordable Care Act saved my life and could save yours too. If you’re unemployed, worried about your health or just want to ensure that you’re prepared for an unpredictable future, make sure you sign up for health insurance before the Special Enrollment Period ends on August 15.”

Laura Packard is the executive director of Get America Covered, founder of Health Care Voices and a stage IV cancer survivor. The Affordable Care Act saved her life.
