Same Gun Different Skin

This social experiment was organized by the white male in the introduction of the video. It offers video footage of two police encounters. The first- a white male. The second- a black male.

Note: The main issue I have with this video is not that the officer drew his weapon and commanded that the black male get on the ground. The main issue with this video is that the white male did not receive the same command.

As a citizen, I would expect and hope that if an officer in my community saw a man or woman walking down the street with an assault rifle, they would take action to stop the individual: asking them to prove the authenticity of their permit, and requiring them to disclose the location they have come from and are headed towards. For my safety, I would hope the officer would do so using methods such as a calm conversation or detainment until he can receive answers.

The most important details to take from this video are that both males appear to be close in age, are in the same state, and are carrying the same weapon- an AR-15 assault rifle. How can two encounters have such different outcomes when the variables of the situations are so similar?

The answer is simple: Police “fear” is not dependent on the presence of a weapon but is dependent on the individual who possesses the weapon.
