We want to go to bed happy. We went to go to bed thinking of something sweet and hoping that the dreams are even sweeter. Now if you work backwards, that means that everything you do in a day is for happiness so you can be in bed at night feeling happy. That’s precisely what all of us want.

In our experiences with people, we have some amazing ones but some very hurtful and disappointing ones, too. Now comes the critical question: How do we use that for happiness? It’s simple — get rid of the ones that make you sad, anxious and uneasy and keep the ones that make you laugh and smile. It is easier said than done. Nobody wants to be around people who aren’t interested in their lives or claim to say that “I’ll always be there for you” when that’s not true. We want genuine people who will genuinely care about our mental health. But it’s a bit tricky; it’s not the easiest to know who’s trustworthy and who isn’t, at first. That’s where experiences shape you and guide you.

The initial interaction is a big part of the image that you form of that person. In the initial interaction, it is vital not to give away every detail about yourself. You want to test the waters with the other person before going into the deep. Observing their responses and interest is the key — do they take an interest in knowing about you? Do they care to understand what makes you happy? That’s where you figure out the intentions of the person. Are they there to get something from you? Or to use you by pretending to be caring? You have to sieve out the bad and keep the good. It is with the experience that you’ll get good at this. The tricky part is that sometimes people who you thought were genuine turn out to make your life unhappy. But those are people who will change your life because they will teach you a lesson — be careful about who you get close to.

Life is too short for people who make you unhappy. It’s not worth wasting your time and emotions on people who don’t deserve you. All you have is yourself, and in this big evil world, we need happiness and peace. So pick the right people because they won’t let you down.
