It’s finally starting to feel like summer, and we can hardly contain ourselves. Not only is it time to pack away your sweaters and boots, but it’s a perfect time to take a look at the interior design of your home! Just like in fashion, there are seasons in interior design. Check out our top 8 ways to prepare your space ready for the warmer months!

1. Use more natural fibers and fabrics.

Cotton, wood, rattan, and wicker are great materials to start integrating into your space. They can add a relaxed, beachy feel to your home. We love these wicker pendant lights!

2. Throw away your heavy curtains, and let the sun shine!

You don’t need those velvet curtains to help seal in heat, and nothing makes your space feel bigger than letting natural light in. Plus, less lamps = less electricity! If you want to maintain your privacy, opt for a sheer curtain made of linen or cotton lace.

3. Pair down your space — get rid of extra pillows and throws.

Accent pillows and throw blankets feel super cozy during the winter, but during the summer you won’t be needing them! Store them away and make even more room for entertaining guests and lounging on the couch.

4. Add more evergreen to your space.

Even if you don’t have a green thumb (we’re guilty of killing almost every plant in our office…) plants are way more likely to survive in the summer months. Explore low-maintenance options, like succulents.

6. Turn the focus away from the fireplace.

All winter long you’ve been cozying up around the fire, but now its time to turn your focus elsewhere! If you can, turn your furniture toward your windows and the natural light.

7. Change up your gallery wall by adding some color!

Add a pop of color to your gallery wall by changing up the mounting on your images.

8. Add summer blooms to your weekly bouquets.

It may seem obvious, but adding seasonal flowers to your space is an easy and inexpensive way to bring summer vibes to your home!

9. Outfit your outdoor space!

Upgrade your outdoor furniture game — adding little details lighting and nice glassware will take your dinner with friends from friendly-outdoor-picnic to super-chic-dinner-party.
