I’ve been on this earth for 22 years and some change now and I’ve had my fair share of failures and successes. Its through these experiences and my time on the podcast that I’ve been able to really narrow down on some of the biggest keys to success. Well, actually they are “P’s” put you get the point.

Patience

One of the biggest keys to success is patience and thats one of the biggest keys that I can’t stress enough. Success doesn’t happen overnight. I know its a worn out phrase that we have all heard before, but its message couldn’t be more true. Success is a process. Though its timeline is often undetermined, its important to be present and patient throughout the progression.

E. 108 — The Backpocket Podcast Boys

These lads from Minnesota, shifted from the football field to the podcasting studio in order to make their impact last. Through their journey, they have had moments of uncertainty and doubt, but their belief in their system and their patience with the process has gotten them to the level of success they have amounted today. Over 100 episodes and 30k downloads later, these boys have exemplified patience and have allowed their influence to grow!

Perseverance

Success, though it may be glorious and satisfying, isn’t easy. Any one who has accomplished any sort of success at any scalable level can attest to the difficulties that comes with chasing a goal. You can be as prepared and skilled as possible but you can’t fully plan for life. Its bound to throw curve balls your way and put hurdles along your path. Its at these points you are going to need more than just preparation or skill. You are going to need grit and heart.

E. 105 — Sam Demma

Sam was a D1 soccer player from Canada with offers from some of the country’s most respected collegiate programs. After injuring his knee 3 separate times, he was forced to take a step back from his soccer dreams and pursue making an impact else where. He didn’t let this set back stop him from accomplishing incredible things. He shifted from sports to public speaking among other things and was able to to release his very own Ted Talk.

Preparation / Planning

Preparation and planning are keys of life, not only success. They are essential building blocks to finding YOUR version success. Gathering the right skills, being organized and having the right skill set all go hand in hand in showcasing your preparation for the task at hand. Imagine going into class on exam day without knowing whats on the exam! Its not a great feeling and its likely going to promise poor results. How do we fix this? Plan ahead.

E. 101 — Jason Fisher

Jason, during his episode showed us that he was the king of prepping and planning. As he made his move from Cleveland to Syracuse and then L.A., he compounded all of his past projects and essentially created a portfolio to show possible employers. He came to L.A. knowing only 10 people, but used that network to grow into the role that he is in now. He would keep track of all the people he met and when he met with them. This way if he thought that it has been a while since he spoke with someone he would know when he should reconnect with someone so that no opportunity was missed.

Potency

Life is filled with opportunity and if you can recognize it, its yours for the taking. You work your way to opportunity as if is a destination, but what do we do when we get there? There is a sense of beauty in the chase of success, but rarely do we focus on what to do when that chance is on our door step. How to we take it and how do we keep it?

Attack it with potency. A powerful and bold approach that guaranteed to make an impact and establish your influence. In whatever you do, make sure there is potency. Its a way to solidify your presence and your impact and insure your has its rightful impact.

E. 106 — Sam Thompson

Sam’s episode is a great example of the potency of success. He was aware once he made the move from Cali to Boston that he had a gift and passionate about it. He tried to go a more traditional route on his path to success but instead followed the path of collaborations and startups. In Newark, a city filled with potential and lacking direction, he was able to solidify his passions, magnify his success and carry on with potency as his non-profit and philanthropic work thrives to provide underprivileged individuals a chance at at their own success.

Progression

As much as we love accomplishing the goals we set out for ourselves and admiring the fruits of our labor, a key to success is ensuring our success isn’t quickly subdued by time. We live in a world that changes more frequently than we change clothes and its important to remember that time is a constantly changing factor in the equation and should recognized as such.

In order to accomplish large scale goals, there are many smaller steps that need to be completed in order to do so. These smaller steps are just as much apart of success as the end step. In the end, its about progress, taking steps in the right direction and allowing your vision to compound its progress. Even if you aren’t able to reach your intended goal, at least get the ball rolling in the right direction.

E. 102 — Ryne Haas

Ryne has deep ties to the E-sports industry and saw its potential from a young age. Seeing that he industry had little recognition at the time, he took action. Through a school project, Ryne collaborated with a friend to create a E-sports league for his high school and it created a mass buzz. Knowing he wanted to help put E-sports on a map he continued his pursuit and began to scale his idea so that others would be able to follow. Even if he isn’t the one who figuratively lights the torch for E-sports, his continued effort will remain seen as immense progress.

These 6 individuals like all of our guests are successful in what they do and emulate the 5 P’s on their journey in some way, shape or form. Their paths aren’t linear or perfect. Nor are they timely and convenient, but they are successful all in their own way. They put in the work, progressed when needed, stayed patient, planned when need, persevered when things got tough and attacked with potency when they got their chance. They made their dreams come true, and you can too, GETCHOGRINDUP!
