Sharing creators’ stories is one way to stay motivated as a creator while also seeing your favourites in a new light. Behind the brilliant content and mind-blowing creativity is a person who imagines and brings these fantasies to life.

I had the opportunity to speak with a Fidia creator who uses words to create magic and proclaims the gospel of Igbo culture like never before. Her personality was vibrant, but her confidence was unrivalled. Today’s spotlight will be on Ejefobiri Somto, a writer, designer, and educator in Igbo Spirituality and Cosmology.

In your best words, describe how content creation has been.

I’d say challenging. Looking at my chosen career or path, it’s an area people shy away from due to its misrepresentation and the stigma associated with it. Hence challenging, especially as a young woman as well.

You are a well-versed creative with a wide range of interests, how do you manage your multiple interests?

“Scheduling is key.” I prioritise what’s Important and schedule them so they don’t come crashing and finally, I always take a time off when I feel overloaded.

When did you decide you were ready to earn money from your creativity, I mean there are bills to pay.

Ehmm…I think when people started paying attention to my work and needed longer conversations.

What are the challenges you faced when you decided to monetise?

How to monetise and what to monetise.

One of your unique content niches is Igbo Spirituality and Cosmology, what inspired that interest?

The constant misrepresentation of traditional belief systems regarding spirituality and women.

Do you want to change the narrative?

Not change the narrative but tell the original story.

What’s your favourite work or project and why?

An article I wrote on the Cultural Perception Of Menstruation And Menstrual Taboo.

Cultural Perception Of Menstruation And Menstrual Taboo.

Why was this project special?

It reinforced my position on the need to breach a knowledge gap. To understand that there is a huge difference between natural law and human laws. Most human laws were made out of speculations and assumptions and lost their meaning and hold over time. But natural law always stands the test of time and evolution.

You’re an ardent user of Fidia which I admire, so how do you use Fidia?

I use it as a one-page landing page (creator profile), to accept donations, book sessions and sell eBooks.

What’s your favourite feature on Fidia?

I think the payment link.

Do you have any parting words or advice for aspiring creators or those with similar interests?

They should know that this journey is not easy, you will be frustrated and tested but being consistent has its reward.
