Introduction

I’m Chike Oranye, a world-class writer, relationship coach and counsellor.

A brief story about how you started

I actually stumbled into writing and relationship coaching. I remember taking up writing during the nationwide lockdown as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic that ravaged the globe then. I was asked by an ex-university mate who started an online ghostwriting service specialising in undergraduate research thesis to help him take on the extra customers he had as he was overwhelmed. He told me I could charge them any amount I wanted as long as I did an excellent job of retaining the goodwill of his “start-up” and I agreed. Alas! The legend that is Chike the world-class writer was born.

I discovered my passion for relationship coaching and counselling when my friends and sometimes people I met and exchanged contact details with during my time in NYSC camp would either constantly call or send me messages on Whatsapp and steer the conversation to whatever relationship issue they were having with their romantic partner at the time.

In most cases, the calls would last for hours. So out of curiosity I had a deep dive research session into the world of relationship coaching and counselling and found out that people were making hundreds of thousands of dollars and in some cases millions of dollars offering the same service I was offering for free to individuals globally.

After that stark realization, I decided to get serious with this new passion and improve my skill set by getting properly educated via various schools and relationship coaching academies (And I’m still learning new ways and techniques to improve my service offering and skills).

The favourite thing about your job

My favourite thing about my job is the freedom and flexibility that comes with it. I literally set my working hours. I don’t have to wake up very early just to beat the Lagos traffic every day. As long as I have an internet connection and my laptop I make money from the comfort of my crib.

Your most significant tip to aspiring coaches and writers?

My advice for aspiring coaches and writers is for them to adopt a “life-long learning” mentality. Practice makes progress not perfect. Adopting this mentality means you can constantly improve your skills irrespective of your experience and increase the value you bring to the market.

Also, when they want to choose who to learn from, they should learn from the best in their preferred niche. They should learn from writers and coaches in their preferred niche who are already earning the type of money they want to earn, living the type of lifestyle they want to live and have set up their writing and coaching businesses in a way or manner they admire.

They should also know that writing and coaching as a career path is a road less travelled by many. It’s not going to be easy. In fact in the beginning it would be somewhat difficult to get their first client as a writer or as a relationship coach/counsellor. But they should remember everything they want is on the other side of the storm and the only way out of the storm is through it.

Outside coaching and writing, what do you enjoy?

Outside coaching I enjoy reading…a lot. This helps me because as a writer I’m meant to have an extensive vocabulary and a vast knowledge of new and exciting concepts that can influence my writing.
Apart from reading I love to watch anime and stand-up comedy specials on Netflix and comedy central. I also enjoy playing console and triple-A-rated mobile games.

P.S. For those wondering what side of the fence I’m on regarding the console wars I’m team PlayStation 😤.

Your favourite Fidia feature

My favourite Fidia feature is the booking feature. The fact my clients can seamlessly book and pay to receive relationship coaching and counselling services from me irrespective of their location in the world gives me joy! 😊
