It is not unknown to the human race that Ayurveda is one of the most promising and effective medical treatment which, in today’s world has posed to be also the most followed regimen, as well. Ancient Ayurvedic alternatives to the chemical medicines or the artificial factory product, has altered many human lives for the betterment. In countries beyond India, Ayurveda therapies and practices have been integrated in general wellness applications and in some cases in medical use.

This post is regarding the replacement of the unhealthy chewing gums and the mouth fresheners, with healthier and natural alternatives. Here is a list of five aromatics that are not only loaded with freshness but are full of nutrients. They improve many physiological functions and prevent onset of many diseases.

  1. Fennel or saunf

Fennel seeds serve as a cure to all the 3 Trodosha (Vata, Pita, Kapha). The seeds have a cooling effect on the body. A fennel seed drink in the summer season serves to relieve heat from the body. The oil found in the seeds is used in massage blends, especially in Ayurveda to calm the nerves and promote mental clarity. Other health benefits include reduction of blood pressure, reduction in water retention, reduction in asthma symptoms, purification of the blood etc.

Chewing of these fennel seeds highly reduces bad breath. It can be a great mouth freshener after a meal or generally if your mouth is smelling. A concentrated source of minerals like Copper, Potassium, Calcium, Zinc, Manganese , Vitamin C, Iron, Selenium and Magnesium, the age old practice does much more than simply beat bad breath, hence, it can be used for innumerable benefits to the human body.

2. Cardamom Seeds

The green cardamom seeds serve as an excellent mouth freshener. Its rich reserves of fibre, vitamins, calcium and manganese make it more than just another mouth freshener. It helps clean the respiratory tract removing the traces of mucus. It flushes out toxins like uric acid, creatinine and urea clearing out nephrons in the kidney and hence, serves as an eliminator of toxins from the body.

3. Rose marmalade or Gulkand

Apart from refreshing the mouth Gulkand treats mouth ulcers, makes teeth and gums strong. It improves appetite, betters digestion, corrects digestive issues. Gulkand reduces acidity and reduces heat in the stomach, treats ulcers and swelling in the intestine. It is a mild laxative and strengthens the 7 dhatus (fundamental elements or tissues, namely, plasma, blood, muscles, fat, semen, bone and bone marrow) of the body.

4. Roasted coriander seed

Coriander seed contain antibacterial properties due to which, it stops bacterial growth in the mouth. It helps lower blood glucose, thus maintaining healthy blood sugar levels. Coriander seeds have antioxidant properties and dietary fiber that promote the healthy functioning of the liver and facilitate bowel movements. Coriander seeds prevent further hair fall and help stimulate the roots for the growth of new hair.

However, what make them a league apart are its fatty acid contents like oleic acid, linoleic acid, palmitic acid making fat metabolism worthwhile. Coriander seeds are both an effective carminative and a mouth freshener.

5. Mint

Mints are high in substance rosmarinic acid that are beneficial in curing asthma, its antioxidant abilities neutralize free radicals and also blocks the production of inflammatory chemicals leukotrienes. It has excellent anti-inflammatory properties that are effective in enhancing gut health too.

The menthol contained in peppermint induces bowel-comforting effect, thus treating irritable bowel syndrome and constipation et al. It also encourages cells to make substances called prostacyclins that keep the airways open for easy breathing.

Extracts of peppermint relieves the nasal symptoms of allergic rhinitis (colds related to allergy). Presence of a phyto-nutrient called a monoterpene is plentiful in peppermint oil that has shown to control the growth of pancreas, breast and liver tumors.

6. Parsley

Incorporating parsley in your regular diet can lead to elimination of stomach problems due to which the foul smell in your mouth caused by these gas problems, will be eliminated.

These natural mouth fresheners give you enough reasons to smile. They can be easily obtained from your mother’s kitchen and incorporated in your daily regimen.
