I reached out a few weeks ago to some of the best projects on EOS and asked them about how they are using Scatter in their projects. We wanted to share the developer’s views on how Scatter makes their lives easier, and improves the experience for their users.

Murmur

Abhinav, from Murmur, was kind enough to speak with me.

Rami
How did you use Scatter’s technology in your app?

Abhinav
Scatter is a great tool that enables users to securely sign transactions on EOS. Scatter desktop is integrated into our web app to enable users to use the web application of Murmur and sign all transactions with their keys on Scatter.

Rami
Why did you choose Scatter over other options?

Abhinav
Scatter is by far the most used tool on EOS, with most Dapps integrating Scatter desktop into their web applications. We choose Scatter because of it’s security, ease of use, and wide existing user base.

Rami
What features do you think Scatter is missing that would make either integration easier or would benefit your end users?

Abhinav
If there was a way for users to create account permissions easily, so that they can delegate some account actions to other accounts, then that would be great.

Rami
We absolutely agree and definitely see the need to spread and mitigate the risks associated with the current Owner/Active permissions system. The power of EOS permissions will, we are sure, be taken advantage of to a greater degree in the coming months and years.

Thanks again to Abhinav from Murmur for reaching out and giving us an insight into their development process.

nOS

Dean van Dugteren, the founder of the awesome nOS project took some time to go through my questions. His answers were thoughtful, direct, and thorough. Such a pleasure!

Rami
How did you use Scatter’s technology in your app?

Dean
nOS is integrating the Scatter protocol so that ScatterApps are able to deploy to (and be used on) the nOS decentralized ecosystem. This integration allows ScatterApps to be served and used in a decentralized way (decentralized filesystem and name service), next to the “traditional” way (centralized hosted servers and domain names).

We’re also integrating Scatter’s RIDL token so that users are able to review the reputation of apps, smart contracts, and addresses on nOS.

Scatter’s token exchange will be supported in our Smart Token Conversion system, allowing users to easily purchase the tokens they need for using an app, while using said app.

Beyond that, we’re working on a wizard that generates starter kits for Scatter apps, paired with a one-click option to deploy the app to nOS.

Rami
Why did you choose Scatter over other options?

Dean
Scatter complements nOS and vice-versa. Both projects tackle different points that very much go hand-in-hand.

Combined with Scatter’s vision, aggregation of different blockchains, strong community, and dedicated team, the decision to work with Scatter was an easy one.

Rami
What features do you think Scatter is missing that would make either integration easier or would benefit your end users?

Dean
I think Scatter is covering things extremely well. Everything that seems “missing” is already being worked on. I’ll have to sleep on this question in order to come up with something ;)

Rami
We’re really excited to be working with nOS. The tighter integration into their project will definitely bring big advantages for our combined user bases. Super cool stuff.

Boid

John Heeter from Boid kindly sent me his answers via email.

Hi Rami, would be glad to answer your questions. Also wanted to add that we are rolling out Boid NFT support next month, so looking forward to the integrated NFT market being built into Scatter.

Rami
How did you use Scatter’s technology in your app?

John
Users can proxy their vote to our voterProxy at boidcomproxy. Users can also stake their BOID tokens to increase their profitability. Users can link their Boid account to their EOS account for daily mining payouts.

Rami
Why did you choose Scatter over other options?

John
Scatter has the broadest adoption among popular EOS Dapps. I knew that if we integrated Scatter then the majority of users would be able to interact seamlessly. From our support requests I’d say we made the right decision.

Rami
What features do you think Scatter is missing that would make either integration easier or would benefit your end users?

John

  • Mobile support
  • Social Auth
  • Better interop with chrome extension
  • Clear up confusion and documentation around eosjs vs eosjs2
  • eosjs2 Scatter + Ledger is broken but this issue is not documented anywhere

Rami
Well, we’ve been hard at work for months on Mobile support and our OAuth solution. We, unfortunately, decided to stop supporting the Chrome extension for security reasons. About the documentation issues, we’ll have to have a look and fix those :) our bad.

Thanks to everybody who responded. It was fun and enlightening!
