Up until now Scatter was a wallet. It can be much more.

A lot of the foundational work has been done

We can connect and allow users to manage accounts on multiple blockchains and networks. We can exchange tokens from one kind to another so users are not tied to one token, and are free to choose what they want to do with them. We can do transfers from one account to another with relative ease. We provide developers with great tools that make developing exchanges, games, and other dapps a snap. We have a large and active developer community.

We have some of the pieces we need to take the next step. But, some critical components are still missing to get us to where I think we can get.

A few missing pieces

Mobile

Everyone walks around with a supercomputer in their pockets these days. Mobile is king because mobile is with you all the time. We aim to build out Scatter Mobile for Android and iOS in 2019 because we know that is where the future lies.

We’ve started looking for a react native developer. If you’re interested, please drop me a mail with your CV or send it directly to Nathan.

RIDL

As we saw earlier this week, there are many malicious actors on the blockchain who want to steal user’s accounts and funds. We need a way to notify users about bad things, and we need to do it in a decentralized way so that no one of us becomes the gatekeeper. We want something fair, robust, and honest. Our Reputation and Identity Layer, or RIDL, is the way to do that.

Each account will have a series of fragments that together define how trustworthy an individual like a dapp, a user, or a contract actually is. No longer will bad actors be able to prey upon the unwitting, because together we can defend ourselves.

Our goal for Q1 2019 is to bring you RIDL, with Scatter Defender as its implementation inside of Scatter. We think that together, we can make the blockchain better.

A more robust explorer

We think that what is interesting about EOS is the ability to run real apps. With teams like Mythical Games teasing us with unique, fun offerings, we’re just now starting to get a peek of what might be coming in 2019.

But still, finding good content on the blockchain is hard and we at Scatter think that we can help. ScatterApps boasts hundreds of entries, with more coming every day. Simple search, which is what we have today, just isn’t enough anymore.

Our goal for Q1 2019 is to expand the capabilities of the in app explorer with things like sensible categories, ratings, and more. You’ll find more things that you like on the blockchain that way, and you’ll use it more. That’s our goal here, isn’t it?

Recurring Payments

Something interesting that is already implemented, but has no user interface yet is the ability to set recurring payments. There’s a recurring property on the scatter object and a service for it, just waiting to be used. So let’s use it. I bet that there are hundreds of interesting use-cases for recurring payments that enterprising entrepreneurs out there would be happy to start pursuing.

We’ll be rolling out recurring payments with a way to manage them from within Scatter in the coming months.

Scatter Bridge

We need an easy way to onboard users. The hoops that we are making users jump through to get to where they want to go is simply too much to ask. If you want to read a bit more about Scatter Bridge, you can jump over to our site or read this previous article I wrote on it.

What that builds for you

So with all these pieces, what does that leave you with, dear reader?

It leaves you with a service that:

  1. Is easy to start using
  2. Allows portable accounts on multiple devices
  3. Lets you manage your digital assets
  4. Protects you from harm
  5. Acts as a trusted repository of known-safe applications
  6. A way to help build real businesses on the blockchain

That, ladies and gentleman, is the platform we want to build this year.
