Your First Job always has a special place!

The one thing that you desperately wait for during your entire high school and college life is that first job. You have hopes and dreams, aspirations and expectations. While you do happen to be slightly nervous, the excitement level is on the highest peak you can imagine.

That first interview will scare you to death and you will be as nervous as anybody could be. While some of you may land a job at that first interview, some of you might have to wait a little more and give a few more interviews before getting that first dream job.

You finally land up a job and you no longer have to be begging for money in front of your parents. However, that first job of yours is not going to be a Cakewalk and you will have a few ups and downs but it will always work out in the end.

Check out 11 things that you would learn at your very first job.

Each penny counts

Every penny counts: Remember the time when you would go on endless shopping sprees and end up buying everything that you would see? Or that crazy bar trip with your friends when you would gulp down endless number of beers and cash out that credit card that your father gave you. Well that’s not going to happen anymore because you will realise the value of money. You will figure out that earning money is not as easy as it sounds.

deadlines should never be missed

Deadlines are important: You may have gotten away from the several deadlines that your professor in college had given you. Well, welcome to the real world my friend. It’s not going to work at your workplace anymore. If you are asked to submit something at a certain time on a certain date you are bound to do that and if you don’t, you will face the consequences and realise that deadlines are important.

Working smart always helps: Once you get used to your first job, you will slowly begin to realise that one of the most important things is to know how to work smartly. You will realise that it’s not the quantity of work that matters but what matters is that how easily and smartly were you able to do it. You will figure out tricks and treats to do it and they will only help you in the long run.

working smart always helps

Bridges should not be burnt: Once you leave that first job of yours only because you ended up having a fight with your boss you’ll realise it wasn’t worth it. Fighting with people and getting away with it may have worked in college but when it comes to work it is best not to burn bridges. Whenever you leave a job make sure you leave it in the most civil manner because you will at the end of the day need a reference and it’s always better to have friends than foes in the corporate world.

Communication is key: You may be a short tempered person and might be irritated by the smallest things that a person says to you but you need to keep it all behind when you go to work. The key to a happy job is good communication skills. You will realise that it’s always easier to get the job done by talking your way instead of being arrogant and rude. Would you not agree that being nice is way better than being someone who everyone hates?

Communication is Key!

Making mistakes is not bad: Another thing that your first job is going to teach you is that making mistakes is not a bad thing after all. You will not be correct all the time and since you are in the learning process, you are bound to make mistakes. Slowly you will realise that is the mistakes you make that have been the key for your success in your professional life. So the bottomline is to learn from your mistakes and never repeat them again.

Enthusiasm always helps: When you enter your first job, the first few days are great because you get to learn new things and do better things. However, once a few months pass by, the job becomes monotonous and boring. Well, at that time all you need to do is keep your enthusiasm at the peak and make sure that you get the most out of your job. A happy and enthusiastic mind is always successful.

Hard Work Always Pays off

Hard work always pays off: You may not realize it initially but hard work will always pay off eventually. While it might not bring you the attention from your boss and your fellow partners but the satisfaction that you’re going to get by working hard is something that nothing can beat. Not only this, you will be respected because of the amount of effort you put it into your job.

Every little thing counts: Your first job is going to teach you to not miss out on the little things. Slowly and eventually, you’ll realise that paying attention to details is always helpful and lets you grow during the learning process. Your attention to details and taking care of little things will always help in making the job easier and give you what you deserve.

Do more than you are asked to: Whenever you are asked to do something make sure that you finish it in time. However, to make a mark and to be noticed always, do a little more than you have been assigned. This way, not only does your superior think that you are efficient but it also gives him/her a reason to give you more responsibilities helping you reach that ladder even more easily.

Always do more than you think you can!

Under commit and over deliver: One thing that you need to make sure during your first job is to learn to under commit and over deliver. When you give your employer more than you were asked to, it always is the best thing for you. Tell him you will do a certain something in a certain amount of time and when it’s time to deliver bring in something more on the plate.

Learn new skills and do not hesitate: The main aim of your first job is to teach you new things and new ways of doing them. The key here is to keep learning and never be hesitant in asking questions or clearing your doubts. The more questions you ask, the more doubts are cleared for you making things a lot easier.

These little things will help you in going to your first job easily and making you a better person as well as a great professional in the long run.
