Blueberry compote and stopping self-sabotage
Welcome to installment #35 of GetSomeJoy’s Daily Breakfast Situation, your weekday check-in with recipes, joy-flavored stories, and wellness tools.
Sauce Week continues. We kicked things off with a creole roux, but I was in the mood for something sweet on today.
This blueberry compote by Wild Wild Whisk reminds me of the Blueberry Lemon Waffle that we served at The Waffle in Hollywood.
It’s a blueberry waffle served with blueberry sauce and lemon curd that dance together in sweet, tangy harmony. We shared many delicious nights together. And that wasn’t even the best waffle on the menu. Time for a roadtrip, mayhaps?
With lemon zest and lemon juice to brighten the flavor, you can use this blueberry compote on pancakes, waffles, crepes, French toast, ice cream, cinnamon rolls, cheesecake, pie, or whatever your imagination allows.
Many blueberry sauce recipes use cornstarch, either added with the sugar or mixed with water to make a slurry, to thicken the sauce. Trang’s recipe includes notes for achieving your desired thickness without cornstarch.
Play with your citrus (orange zest? lime juice?) or try other berries if that’s what your spirit demands. Mash up de place with a fork if you like.
A few things to moisturize your spirit:
- Good morning to Carolyn Hinds, who wrote about the lack of accessibility in the film industry.
- Connecticut Children’s shared four ideas for checking on your child’s mental health.
- Dawnn Lewis from A Different World stars as Ms. Washington in the new Netflix Family series, Karma’s World.
- Watch the first episode of Karma’s World here.
- Fun fact: Therapists have emotions, too.
- Pesto with collard greens? I’ll try it.
- Does self-sabotage keep you from joy, happiness, or greatness? Dr. Thema of The Homecoming Podcast has some ideas to stop getting in your own way.
Dassit. See you tomorrow.
