Agile is something invented by geeks: it’s a set of processes, but it’s also a mindset. Developers don’t care about office perks, not even who their managers are — what’s most important to them is an environment where they can work on their craft, solve complex problems and ultimately know that they are making a difference in the world. It comes down to the ‘people’: everyone wants to work for an organisation where they can learn something every day. As a leader, you need to give them the space to do this.
If you give control away, you’ll get much more than you’ve bargained for!”
The best way to give your employees more autonomy while growing the company, is to get your engineers closer to the business strategy and KPI’s. This will lead to self-organisation. Ideally, the team operating your software, should also be the team coding it.
Geeks are responsible for some of the biggest changes in the workplace as we know it — they are worth looking after!
